Breeding facilities
The breeding facilities are located in several places in the Pardubice Region, on a total area of over 25,000 m2 with the headquarters in Úhřetická Lhota.
They consist of an indoor area of approximately 8,500 m2 and an outdoor area, which is used mainly during the season.
Thanks to the sufficient space available, we can ensure comfortable conditions for the animals and the employees who care for them.
The individual nurseries are located in several facilities located away from each other to take advantage of the different nature of the surrounding natural conditions and to better ensure zoo hygiene.
Different types of housing, from terrariums to natural habitats of outdoor enclosures, are used for breeding animals. In the case of outdoor enclosures, it is mainly a seasonal use as well as a wintering area.
All housing is equipped and furnished according to the requirements of our individual species.
We use mainly natural materials to furnish the enclosures.
Different types of breeding facilities
Bearded dragons
We mainly keep bearded dragons indoors in tanks with lighting suitable for day animals. In the summer months, we use outdoor enclosures, which have the possibility of shelter in greenhouses. These provide an ideal climate, especially at night. In the open areas, the agamas can benefit from direct sunlight. Adults are kept in groups with one male, and the young are kept in groups in numbers according to the size of the enclosure. The bedding of the enclosures consists of silica sand.
Geckos
We mostly use terrariums for breeding geckos. We keep the animals in groups or pairs according to the needs of each species. The most used functional equipment of the enclosures is natural cork bark. In addition to feeding insects, our geckos of the genus Rhacodactylus are also regularly fed with fresh fruit mash enriched with vitamins and minerals. In addition to the genus Rhacodactylus, we also regularly breed geckos of the genera Nephrurus, Strophurus, and Oedura.
Chameleons
For chameleons, we pay special attention to proper lighting and individual handling of adults. Indoor spaces are adapted to the temperature and humidity of their homeland. We breed chameleons of the species Furcifer pardalis from Madagascar and Chameleo calyptratus from Yemen. The enclosures for each species are designed to emulate the animals' original environment.
Tailed amphibians
Most of the tailed amphibians are native to the northern hemisphere temperate, so they enjoy the same conditions in the summer months as we do here. For this reason, we use outdoor spaces for most species. As part of our Super Genetic projects, we are also involved in the refinement of several species such as A. tigrinum and S. terestris into various colour mutations.
Frogs
We usually keep the frogs in groups in tanks with adequate ventilation and lighting. We try to keep the natural furnishings as close as possible to their natural habitat and the needs of each species separately. For some species, especially sundews, we also use greenhouses and summer housing during the summer months.
Tarantulas
For breeding tarantulas, we use special indoor spaces divided into individual breeding rooms. In each room, we maintain specific conditions adapted to the natural habitats of the species we breed. Thanks to this, we successfully breed tarantulas from different natural climatic conditions. Our successes include regular breeding of Brachypelma, Poecilotheria, and many others.
Feeder insects
Whereas the feed of our animals is one of the most important factors influencing the overall success in breeding, we have built our own insect feed farm, which is separated from other facilities. The rearing farm has high-quality sanitary facilities, a food processing plant and a fruit and vegetable store for the reared insects.
